This manual provides guidance for the effective operation and maintenance of swimming pools and associated equipment at Army Installations by personnel assigned to the Directorate of Engineering and Housing organization. It may be used as a general reference source in related training programs. This manual does not replace nor modify manufacturers’ instructions on specific equipment. Objectives are to achieve sanitary and efficient operation and maintenance of swimming pools and to eliminate hazards to life and property.
How do I become a Certified Pool & Spa Operator ® (CPO ®)?There are two ways that students can obtain a Certified Pool/ Spa Operator Certification.Taking only the on-line Fundamentals or Pool Operator Primer ™ course does NOT provide a Certified Pool & Spa Operator ® Certification. In order to become certified utilizing an online course, students must complete Pool Operator Fusion:. Does the state I live in require CPO ® Certification?The requirement for Pool & Spa Operator ™ Certification is determined by each individual state health department. Students should contact the health department in their state to determine its training requirements.Students may also visit the NSPF ® web site Pool/Spa Codes page to review codes from various state health departments. How do I renew my CPO ® Certification?There are three ways that CPO ® Certification can be renewed. Students may take the 2-Day classroom course or both the on-line Pool Operator Primer ™ training and the one-day classroom Pool Operator Fusion ™ course offered by a certified instructor. At the end, students must successfully complete an open book exam with a minimum score of 75%. (NOTE: If theCPO ® Certification has expired, this is the only option for re-certification.). Students may take the online fundamentals or Pool Operator Primer ™ courses and make arrangements with an NSPF ® Instructor to administer the open-book CPO ® Certification exam for. Students must achieve a minimum score of 75% on the exam to re-certify.
(NOTE: This method only applies to CPO ® Certification which has not expired.). If available, students may take a one day review course taught by an NSPF ® Instructor and pass the certification exam.
